Hi, I’m Sarah

sarah

My name is Sarah Murphy and I’m a journalist based in Hamilton, ON. My interests lie in arts & culture reporting and feature writing, though I’ve been trained in covering all kinds of things from court reporting to community news to the bundle of fun that is Rob Ford’s city council.

Most recently, I was an online editor for Canadian music magazine Exclaim!, but I have also done work for Q and CBC Music. In a past life, I was the arts editor at Wilfrid Laurier University’s student paper The Cord, which sparked an initial interest in journalism and probably permanently damaged my liver.

I was a 2014 graduate of Ryerson’s Master of Journalism program, and my final project was a feature on the evolution of music criticism and the tension between pretentious taste and appreciating pop music.

  1. Hi Sarah,

My name is Jacqueline Tucci and I’m a Ryerson journalism student, currently working in collaboration with the school and our campus radio station on a radio documentary project, Then & Now. The concept of the project is to take old student work and follow-up to see where they are now. I hope I have the right Sarah Murphy, and if so, I believe you produced a radio documentary a few years ago about young people searching for ways to continue to be creative even while working in a post-grad life. Was that you? If so, I’d love to feature this doc in my project. Would you be okay with that? I’d also love to interview you and some of the subjects in your doc, if you’re willing. Let me know if this is something you’d be interested in.

    Thanks,

    Jacqueline
